JOHN 8:58
Jesus said to them: “Most truly I say to YOU, Before Abraham came into
existence, I have been.” NWT
Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was,
I am. KJV
εἶπεν
αὐτοῖς Ἰησοῦς, Ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν, πρὶν Ἀβραὰμ γενέσθαι ἐγὼ εἰμί
EXODUS 3:14
At this God said to Moses: “I SHALL PROVE TO BE WHAT I SHALL PROVE
TO BE.” And he added: “This is what you are to say to the sons of Israel, ‘I
SHALL PROVE TO BE has sent me to YOU.’” NWT
And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt
thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
KJV
14
וַיֹּאמֶר אֱלֹהִים אֶל־מֹשֶׁה אֶהְיֶה אֲשֶׁר
אֶהְיֶה וַיֹּאמֶר כֹּה תֹאמַר לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל
אֶהְיֶה שְׁלָחַנִי אֲלֵיכֶם׃
The Argument:
- In the Greek "New testament" Jesus Words were rendered
ἐγὼ εἰμί (ego eimi) I
am. This is an accurate literal translation.
- Jehovah's words in Exodus אֶהְיֶה are also rendered
ἐγὼ εἰμί
in the 300 BCE Greek translation of the Hebrew scriptures.
- Therefore Jesus = Jehovah.
The Answer
- Jesus would not have spoken Greek to the Jews that were quizzing him in
the Temple at John 8.
- Jehovah did not speak Greek to Moses in Exodus 3. The
correct translation
should be I will be, or I shall prove to be.
- The style ἐγὼ εἰμί
(ego eimi) is translated "I have been" in
other places
in John. Also rendered similarly in modern languages today. Further
discussion.
