BORN AGAIN

*** "Only those who have accepted Jesus in their lives will be saved".

"We certainly agree with that, but where does that leave Abraham, Moses, Job, King David and all the others in the Old Testament who never knew of Jesus?"

*** 'I have accepted Jesus in my life, recognize that he died for my sins and I'm now saved'.  The brother responded with 'Well, if that is the case, shouldn't the Bible be one paragraph long? What is the rest of it for if that is all we need to know? That's why we go door to door - to offer people Bible studies to learn about all the requirements from God'.

Forgiveness -
*** For anyone who has a difficult time forgiving someone and has a great deal of resentment:

"Resentment is like drinking a glass of poison and waiting for the other person to die". Great illustration!

NOT INTERESTED

"Why don't you go and talk to that guy over there! He needs to hear that."
Our CO suggested: "I'm going to do that right now! Now tell me what you think.  I thought that I would share this scripture with him. What do you think about this?”

*** The the householder usually will ask: "What religion are you?" In most cases we would
answer: "Jehovah's Witnesses" and the conversation would normally end there with the words: "Sorry not interested!"  But reply in this manner: "Jehovah's Witness, and you?" This mandates a reply from the the householder, thus allowing us to continue the conversation.

*** When the the householder says, "I'm not interested" at the Beginning of the conversation, he sometimes (when the time is right reply: "I don't blame you, I haven't said anything interesting yet."

*** 'We were asking our neighbour’s opinion of this: "If Jesus was to return to the earth, what church would he attend?"' It is amazing how many don't automatically say their own.  I have used it occasionally and it has allowed for continued conversations.

Belief in God -
***From Bro. Russell

For those who do NOT believe that God will intervene:

JW: 'If you had the power to eliminate the bad things on earth, would you?'
Response: 'Yes.'
JW: 'Then if God does not, then your ability to love and your capacity for compassion is greater than God's. Do you think that could be true?'

***

A good approach to use when talking to a Baptist

Go to 1 Cor. 1:10.  Ask the householder to reason on it.  When they have made a commitment to that command of unity ask: “There are now over 700 divisions within the Baptist church. How do you feel about that?

One True Religion –
*** This is a modified statement of Brother Russell's:
There are over 10,000 religions in the world. If God set these up for us to learn to worship Him properly, learn to love one another, and have useful, peaceful lives, we can only arrive at one of two conclusions. Either he failed miserably, or he didn't set them up in the first place and something else is behind them. Do you agree?
From Alois, ”This would be a good time to use 1 Cor 1:10 too”

KJV only true Bible? -
***'The King James Bible is the only true Bible from God'.

The Brother said, “Is that the one the apostles used? Or did the apostles have the wrong Bible?'

TRINITY
*** "If you wanted to illustrate equality between two family members, which family members would you choose?"
The man said, "Brothers".
That is correct. But the Bible never presents Jehovah and Jesus as brothers. It stipulates that Jehovah is the Father and Jesus the Son. Are they equal?
"No!"
Needless to say that illustration really stuck in their minds and they got the point.

*** The householder stated that he believed in the trinity.

'Oh, do you have the latest information on it?'

The man asked what that was and the CO brought out the Trinity brochure!

*** When talking with someone who believes in the trinity, they seem to focus on John 1:1. This CO says to them "I'll tell you what. You take
your best Scripture for the trinity and throw it out and I'll take my best Scripture against it and throw it out and then let's talk about the trinity
from the Scriptures".
Great idea!

*** Trinity

Try this reasoning with a person who believes in the Trinity

"Let's suppose you are right, the trinity does exist and we are wrong, please show me from the bible what I should do to find the right religion."

This usually stops them cold as they have never thought about guiding someone to the truth, only about stopping JW's on the trinity. Very quickly you figure out if they are sheep like.

Immortality of the Soul -
*** A brother was talking with a the householder about the immortality of the soul. The brother turned to Genesis 2:17 and read it to the the householder and said 'Here God states that you will positively die.' Then he turned to Genesis 3:4 and read it to the the householder and said 'Here Satan said you will positively not die.  Which do you choose to believe?'

Jewish religion -
*** This came from a sister in NJ who is Jewish and so is her husband. This suggestion is one her husband used to try and reason with a Jewish person:
"It is commendable that you are trying to follow all of God's laws, but I'm curious, why don't you sacrifice animals as commanded in the Bible?" The the householder didn't know how to reply so my husband recommended she ask her Rabbi.
When we made the return visit the woman said that the Rabbi told her that the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed in the year 70 CE and they do not have any place to sacrifice anymore. My husband then said “the Temple was indeed destroyed in 70 CE but the command to sacrifice animals was given to the Israelites even to be carried out in the wilderness and throughout their generations.”

Realizing that she was not fully carrying out God's law as she had thought caused her to think and accept a Bible study!

Mormon religion -
*** A brother made a suggestion that you ask them if they take the Bible as God's Word.

I have not found one who did not say yes, insofar as it is translated correctly. If you show them one which contradicts the Mormon religion, they will say that is one of the incorrectly translated scriptures. One brother said we should ask them which scriptures were not translated correctly. I have not had anyone tell me where any are, but the brother said that if they do, simply say that we will leave those scriptures alone. If you get that settled at the outset, they will not have any reason to disregard any other scriptures, of which there are plenty.

*** Mormons believe that Jesus came to the Americas to preach after his death. They refer to the Indians as "Lamanites". We show them John 17:4, which is where Jesus told Jehovah in prayer that he "had finished the work he had been given to do". So if he was finished how and by whose authority did he come to America to preach?

Evolution -
*** Ask 'how did "Man" get here'?  Allow as much time as he likes to give the typical explanation of how 'Man came up out of the ocean, evolved legs, lost fins, grew into something else, etc. etc.... became a monkey etc. until it finally became a Man'.
Then ask 'how long did all of this take'?

Response: ''Millions of years''.
Then ask the reasoning point: ''Now would you mind telling me how "Woman" got here?"

Usually at this point they pause. You can continue to reason that since nothing on earth lives for millions of years, that it stands to reason that Woman would not only have had to evolve the ability to reproduce offspring, but Man would too, and at the exact same rate, for evolution to continue.

Now add to this all of the kinds of land animals, fish, birds, insects, etc., male and female, all evolving at the same rate so as to reproduce for further evolution to take place ... Now what are the odds of that? And more importantly, how reasonable is that?

Miscellaneous -
*** One day a young sister knocked on my Mother's door and made a presentation.
Mama's response was: "I have daughters in your religion, but you people are too good for me, you're just too good."
The sister's response was priceless. In a kind manner, she said: "Mrs. ____, you're being too hard on yourself. There are no angels down here. All the angels are in heaven. Why don't you try again; I'll help you."

*** To use a different approach to those who claim that Jesus was God's equal but not while he was on the earth ask them whether they feel Jesus is now God’s equal, after he went back to heaven.  Read Revelation 2:18 which states "the Son of God says". Then turn in the NWT to the page after the last chapter in Revelation to show them when Revelation was written:  96 C.E., over 60 years AFTER Jesus went to heaven.  Also Rev 3.12 – Jesus refers to My God four times.
